Elon Musk, who has been speaking out against Artificial Intelligence (AI) recently, seems to be working on something AI related. According to The Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times, Musk has just created a new company called X.AI Corp which is registered in Nevada and listed him as the only director of the firm. Also, a member from his family’s offices – Jared Birchall – was mentioned as the Secretary for this company. Elon Musk is well-known for having an obsession with the letter “X”, so he even renamed Twitter Inc. to X Corp!
Elon Musk was already involved in different AI projects before ChatGPT came into the picture. After its sudden fame, he pleaded for regulations and wrote an open letter asking tech companies to slow down its advancement. It appears that Musk thinks ChatGPT is skewed and wants to look out for AI models that are more truthful.
At the moment, it’s not clear what Elon Musk wants to do with his company X.AI and if he’s trying to build a competitor for ChatGPT. Although there is still not much information about this project, we know some things. Musk recruited two ex-DeepMind scientists in March and one of them, Igor Babuschkin, is probably going to lead this project. Musk also reportedly bought 10,000 GPUs from Twitter to use for Artificial Intelligence research. Lastly, The Times reported that he’s been talking with investors from Tesla and SpaceX to help fund his new business.
