Bing on desktop now offers a new way to interact with the search engine—voice chat. Microsoft has implemented voice support for Bing’s chatbot on Edge for PCs, leveraging OpenAI’s advanced GPT-4 technology. In its latest Bing preview release notes, the tech giant acknowledged the popularity of voice input for chat on mobile devices. Initially available on Bing’s AI chatbot for mobile apps, this feature is now accessible on desktop as well. Users can simply tap on the microphone icon in the Bing Chat box to engage with the AI-powered bot, which can read out its responses aloud.

Presently, the feature supports English, Japanese, French, German, and Mandarin. However, Microsoft plans to expand language support in the future. Besides asking Bing questions through voice commands, the chatbot now supports text-to-speech functionality and can respond in its own voice. Microsoft suggested an example query: “Using voice input, ask Bing Chat, ‘What’s the toughest tongue twister you know?'” Rest assured, it will provide an answer.

According to The Verge, Microsoft’s introduction of voice support for Bing Chat on desktop comes shortly after the announcement that the standalone Cortana app for Windows will be discontinued later this year. Microsoft clarified that users will still have access to robust productivity features in Windows and Edge, which boast enhanced AI capabilities. Specifically, they mentioned Bing Chat and Microsoft 365 Copilot, an AI-powered tool for generating content within Microsoft’s applications.
