Museum Transforms Gaming History with Giant ‘Donkey Kong’ Cabinet Thanks to Nintendo

by admin

At the Strong National Museum of Play in New York, they put up a huge Donkey Kong arcade cabinet that’s nearly 20 feet tall. You see, Donkey Kong is one of the main characters in a really popular movie right now, so this big arcade cabinet is fitting for him!

The museum said on Twitter that Nintendo provided them with a big cabinet for their display. This makes sense because Nintendo is very careful about protecting their properties like Donkey Kong, which was the very first time we encountered a famous plumber from Italy (though he went by other names back then – Jumpman & Mr. Video).

Beginning June 30, you’ll be able to play games on a super big, awesome arcade cabinet right in the museum! You don’t need a ladder either because the control interface is at a regular height.

This very tall arcade cabinet might be the biggest in the world — nobody has said it is for sure, though. It’s certainly bigger than an NBA Jam machine which was 16 feet tall and was a part of CES 2020, and it’s also bigger than the Tetris cabinet that currently holds the record according to Guinness World Records.

The Strong National Museum of Play is a place that celebrates gaming. It also has something called a World Video Game Hall of Fame – where they select some cool classic games each year to be inducted. For example, in 2022 they are choosing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Dance Dance Revolution.
