Netflix might be starting to test out games you can play on your TV. A developer found code inside the Netflix app that suggests it could let people use their phones as controllers to play these games. There was a line of text saying “Do you want to use this phone as a game controller?” It also matches with something else the developer found earlier, which showed that Netflix’s new ad-supported plan won’t let you watch movies and shows offline. That turned out to be true.
Netflix created a new gaming experience in 2021. To get access to these games, Android and Apple users will have to download them from the App Store or Google Play. These games are designed to make people spend more time on Netflix and sign up for a subscription if they don’t already have one. But if you watch Netflix on your TV, you won’t be able to find these games.
It’s still unclear how the company plans to bring gaming to TVs. But a Netflix executive said that they’re looking into offering cloud gaming on TVs, with more than just casual games.
Currently, you can use Netflix on mobile devices. There are only 55 titles available right now but they will add 40 more games throughout this year (2023).
