Shankar shared, “Seven years ago, Ubisoft approached me with the opportunity to adapt one of their serious franchises into an anime. However, I pitched them a wild concept influenced by the mood of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. This concept incorporates various characters from Ubisoft’s extensive library and remixes them into an exhilarating anime series, serving as a love letter to the ’90s… or at least my recollection of that era.”
The story unfolds in an alternate universe set in 1992, where the United States has crumbled, giving rise to a nation named Eden that exudes a strong Orwellian atmosphere. Ubisoft explains that the protagonist, Dolph Laserhawk, a super-soldier, faces betrayal by his beloved and finds himself imprisoned in Eden’s high-security facility, Supermaxx. In order to survive, he must lead a group of rebel outcasts on perilous undercover missions.
Shankar describes the series as a blend of violent dystopian fiction, drawing inspiration from the works of Aldous Huxley, as well as a spoof, satire, dark comedy, and a love story. He claims it to be the most thought-provoking show viewers have encountered in a while. Animation for the series is handled by Bobbypills Studio.
