PS5 Beta Update

Sony has announced a forthcoming beta update for the PS5 that brings with it a number of enhancements, such as Dolby Atmos support, improved accessibility options, and expanded M.2 SSD storage. Once the update is installed, users will be able to experience the PS5’s 3D Audio, powered by Tempest 3D AudioTech, on any HDMI device compatible with Dolby Atmos like a home theater system or a soundbar. As for storage, the beta allows the SSD capacity to be expanded from 4GB to 8GB, offering additional storage space for the PS5.

Key features in the upcoming PS5 system software beta include:

_xD83C__xDFAE_ New accessibility options
_xD83D__xDD08_ Compatibility with @Dolby Atmos-enabled audio systems
_xD83D__xDDA5_️ Enhanced social features

Among the new accessibility enhancements, the beta introduces two significant additions: the option to utilize a second controller for gameplay assistance and the ability to enable haptic feedback effects while playing games with any of the DualSense or PS VR2 Sense controllers. Please note that the DuelSense Edge can’t be used as the secondary controller.

The beta also introduces a few social improvements, like a “join” button next to a friend’s name in a game that allows you to jump into the same game. It now also offers an easier way to invite people to your game parties without the need to add them to a group or create a new one. Individual invites can now be replaced with a group invite.

The beta version will initially be made available to selected PS5 users in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Japan, and France. These features are expected to roll out to a wider audience in a few months, following the usual timeline for updates. In the meantime, users can sign up to be a PS5 beta tester via the PlayStation website.
