Insomniac, the developer, has announced the much-anticipated release date for Spider-Man 2 at the 2023 Summer Game Fest. The PS5 exclusive is scheduled for launch on October 20th, a date which Brian Horton from Insomniac affirms the team stands firmly behind.
The successor to the 2018 original sees Peter Parker and Miles Morales teaming up, with character-switching reminiscent of GTA V. Insomniac’s James Stevenson stated in a blog post, “In the open world, players can seamlessly switch between Peter and Miles as they traverse through Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. Each Spider-Man character has exclusive stories and missions in the game world.”
In addition to confirming the release date, Insomniac also announced that pre-orders will begin on June 16th at 10am local time. Pre-order bonuses include early access to the Arachknight Suit for Peter and the Shadow Spider Suit for Miles, each with three color variants. Players will also receive an early unlock for the Web Grabber gadget and three skill points.
In a gameplay trailer released during last month’s PlayStation Showcase, viewers were treated to a look at Parker’s Spider-Man clad in the black Symbiote (Venom) Suit, revealing a taste of the powers and potential pitfalls that come with the new territory.
