Deconstructeam has revealed that its latest tarot-based adventure, The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, will be released on August 16th. This interactive narrative experience, giving players the reins of the storyline, will be accessible on both PC and Nintendo Switch platforms. An intriguing new launch trailer provides a sneak peek at the game’s tarot deck building element and its impactful decision-making.
In the game, players take on the character of Fortuna, a witch condemned to spend 1,000 years on a distant asteroid due to an undesirable prophecy of doom she foresaw. The gameplay takes place 200 years into her sentence, with numerous flashbacks prior to her banishment to keep the narrative engrossing. Interestingly, Fortuna isn’t as isolated as one might anticipate. She has the company of Ábramar, a deity she summoned to assist her in escaping and executing revenge on her coven. Surprisingly, being stranded on an asteroid doesn’t prevent an array of visitors from finding her.
The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood follows Deconstructeam’s previous creations – Gods Will Be Watching and The Red Strings Club – and enhances the developer’s focus on thought-provoking, story-centric experiences set against dystopian backdrops. Much of the gameplay is centered around the narrative choices you make (primarily via dialogue options) and the creation and utilization of tarot decks, brought to life through beautiful pixel art. Players can personalize the tarot cards’ backdrops, symbols, and additional features, curating a unique magical toolkit. However, those seeking a simpler gaming experience can keep the deck creation process basic. “Fundamentally, Cosmic Wheel is a visual novel where the narrative trajectories are determined by the player’s decisions,” writes Jessica Conditt in her April preview for BuyTechBlog.
The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood will be priced at $18 upon its release on August 16th for Nintendo Switch and PC. The game can be pre-ordered on Steam and added to your wishlist on GOG in anticipation of its launch. (Nintendo is yet to list the product.)
